The Aquin Schools in Cascade, Iowa, have a deeply ingrained history tied to the origins of St. Mary Parish. Since its inception, the parish has consistently maintained a school, with documented records dating back to 1857 revealing two separate institutions - one German and one Irish. Lay teachers initially staffed the schools, later supplemented by the Sisters of Charity (BVM) who also served St. Martin Parish. The Franciscan Sisters from Dubuque took over in 1883, dedicating over a century to the school. Aquin High School operated from 1961 to 1976.
In 1968, Aquin Elementary School opened its doors and welcomed all students from surrounding towns and parishes. Our school has a long history of faith-filled academic success, leadership, and service.
The picturesque St. Martin's Church, adjacent to the school, hosts weekly masses and its bells chime daily, accompanying students in their academic journey.
